We are in the midst of global uncertainty. This moment is requiring us to become more aware of the impact of our behaviors on ourselves, others and the environment. Understanding who we are and telling our own story helps us become grounded so that we are able to withstand the storms of life during uncertain times. Facing the truth of our past, acknowledging the shortcomings of our present, and creating, together, a more equitable and just future is the most promising way forward.
We will need to learn to listen, to dialogue, to strategize. To do this essential work, we must each stand firmly in the knowing of who we are and come to terms with the ways that we’ve been shaped by the circumstances of our lives. This workshop is designed to provide a safe container for putting your story into words, and sharing it with others. Narrative writing is a potent tool for exploring how our beliefs and attitudes were formed and understanding more about how we affect one another. Healing the divisions between us requires that we examine these beliefs, that we tell the truth to ourselves, that we see what has been unseen, that we speak what has been unsaid.

Course Facilitator: Julie Rainbow, MSW, is a research-based cultural creator who uses oral histories, multi-media, and research/archival materials to interpret and amplify the voices of the aging in modern society. She believes that by listening deeply to another’s story, resilience emerges and that the work of “sharing one’s story” is an intimately relational process. Experience has taught her that emotional resonance is the common thread that connects and reminds us of our humanity.
